What Is Topical Authority?
Topical authority is the concept that search engines and AI tools evaluate not just individual pages but a website's overall depth of coverage on a topic. A dealership that publishes one blog post about "Toyota Camry" has less topical authority than one with a pillar page, trim comparisons, maintenance guides, pricing content, and model-year comparison pages - all interlinked. Building topical authority is the long-game strategy that compounds over time: each new piece of content strengthens every existing piece on the same topic. For AI search, topical authority is especially important because AI tools prefer to cite comprehensive, authoritative sources over thin, isolated pages.
