What Is Faceted Navigation?
Faceted navigation (also called filtered navigation) allows visitors to narrow inventory results using multiple criteria simultaneously. On dealership SRPs, common facets include make, model, year, body type, price range, mileage, color, and features. The SEO challenge is that each filter combination creates a unique URL, potentially generating thousands of near-duplicate pages. Solutions include: using canonical tags to point filtered views to the main SRP, implementing robots.txt or meta robots to prevent indexing of low-value filter combinations, using AJAX-based filtering that doesn't create new URLs, and selectively allowing indexation only for high-value filter combinations (like make+model) that match real search queries.
