What Is Domain Authority?
Domain Authority (DA) is a metric created by Moz (similar metrics exist from other tools: Domain Rating from Ahrefs, Authority Score from Semrush). It's not a Google ranking factor directly, but correlates with ranking ability. Most single-rooftop dealership websites have a DA of 20-40, while national sites like AutoTrader (DA 80+) and CarGurus (DA 80+) have much higher authority. Dealerships improve DA through quality backlink acquisition, consistent content publishing that earns natural links, local press coverage, community involvement, and long-term site age. Domain Authority is one reason why owned content strategies take time to compound - but once built, the authority persists.
