What Is SEM (Search Engine Marketing)?
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is the umbrella term for all search-related marketing activities. While some use SEM to mean only paid search, it technically includes both PPC and SEO. For dealerships, an effective SEM strategy coordinates both channels: SEO builds long-term organic visibility for informational and educational queries, while PPC provides immediate visibility for high-intent commercial queries where organic rankings haven't been established yet. As organic rankings improve through content strategy, PPC spend can be strategically reduced for keywords where organic now captures the traffic - creating the "PPC reduction" effect that compounds cost savings over time.
